I ate outside for lunch today. I picked up a lobster sushi roll and a hard half and half lemonade and sat under a tree in the park. It was so warm for October. I couldn’t stop looking up at how blue the sky was. It looked like it went on forever.
I like the Bronx. I used to be frustrated with living here because there isn’t really anything catering to my hobbies or interest here, and traveling more than an hour everywhere is annoying. It’s a good burough though. There’s so many people blindly following power in New York and the Bronx is a good break from that. Lot of bloodlines run deep here, so there’s always this sense of family values.
I walked through the woods. I came across two black roosters with big red eyes. I kneeled down to them and we stared at each other. Their gaze was intense but I wanted to hold my ground. Eventually they realized I wouldn’t hurt them and wandered off. It was magical. When I went home I looked into it, and they symbolized presence and an invitation to deeper insight. Roosters with red eyes are also associated with powerful energy and protection.
There is a playground at the exit of the woods. There was one child playing there and his parents watching. I liked the colors of the playground so I took my marker out and drew a tall flower on it. The father approached me and asked “What is that a sign for?” him and his wife looked nervous. They must have been worried about gang affiliation. “It’s just a flower” I said. They smiled.
Then I went to the beauty supply store. I like to match my nails with my mood. My last manicure was deep blue jelly nails, which matched those watery feelings I was in. Now I felt more purple. I wasn’t sure what purple exactly. I picked a deeper neon purple and a blue glitter shift purple and asked the girl at the counter which I should get. She tipped her head towards the glitter. I agreed.
I’d been outside for three hours now, I figured it was time to go home. On my way I came across a flowing fire hydrant. I sat on the sidewalk and stuck my hands in the water. It was ice cold on my finger tips. I felt it clear my channels and relax my nervous system. The sound of a fire engine sped by. I felt present. I felt good.
I also found a pepper plant while I was out. I think it’s a bonnet pepper but I’m not sure, because they were still so young. I picked one and scanned it when I got home. Today was great!
